Rufus L. Heflin Rites in Fresno
--
    Rufus L. Heflin, 87, retired Fresno businessman, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Helen Good, at 4145 Opal Cliff Dr. yesterday after a long illness.
    He came to Santa Cruz in 1959 after the death of his wife Belle Heflin and made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Merle Good.
    A native of Santa Rosa, Heflin lived in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, where he was educated, before settling in Fresno in 1895.
    He operated a cigar store, was in the grocery business, worked at Hammer A.F.B. during WWII and later was an office manager with a Fresno plumbing concern.
    He was a member of Fresno Aerie 39, Fraternal Order of Eagles.
    He was the husband of the late Belle Heflin; father of W. Morton Heflin of Oak Park, Ill., and Mrs. Helen Good of Santa Cruz; brother of Turner Heflin of Los Angeles and Clarence Heflin of Redlands; also survived by 13
grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
    Graveside services will be conducted at the Mountain View Cemetery in Fresno at 11:30 o'clock with Fresno Aerie, 39, F.O.E. officiating.

    Private services are today for Ernest J. Salzmann, who died Sunday in Santa Cruz after a lengthy illness. He was 89.
    Mr. Salzmann was born in London, England, and came to the United States in 1914, settling in Spokane, Wash. He and his wife moved to Santa Cruz in 1944.
    Mr. Salzmann served in Africa with the U.S. Army during World War II. For more than 25 years he worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Santa Cruz.
    He was a member of the California National Guard and the National Rifle Team for many years. He was also a life member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 64, life member and past commander of VFW Post No. 7263, and
served on the Santa Cruz County United Veteran's Council for 50 years.
    Mr. Salzmann is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Salzmann of Santa Cruz; daughter Nancy Kolpitcke of Martinez; sister Eda Becknell of Oakland; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
    His son Stephen died [in 1979].
    Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery next to his son.
    Arrangements are by Norman's Family Chapel of Soquel.
    Contributions are preferred to the American Cancer Society, 209 Walnut Ave., Santa Cruz, CA 95060.
