1 - Select a directory which contains an index.htm/l file. The index file will hide the listing of the directory's contents from any visitors.
2 - Create an "Under Construction" file with the same name as the file you want to hide. Give it an .html extension and save it to your directory. 3 - Now give the file you want to hide the exact same name, but with an .htm extension, and then save it to the same directory. 4 - Distribute ONLY the hyperlink for your "Under Construction" file and create NO hyperlinks to the protected file (otherwise, a web spidering engine might find it). 5 - To see your hidden file, click on your link to the "Under Construction" file. Once that page is displayed, go up to the Address/Location field and delete the "l" out of the ".html". Now press the Enter key. Your hidden page should pop up. Here's an example of the technique, with a cal.html and cal.htm file. |
