Notes:
8. When the Undertaker defeated Hogan, WWF President Jack Tunney immediately declared a rematch, instead of declaring the title vacant, due to the interference of Ric Flair, on behalf of the Undertaker.
9. Hogan defeated Undertaker during this rematch, with interference by Flair, on behalf of both men. Tunney then declared the title vacant, to be filled by the winner of the 30-man Royal Rumble match. Hogan and Undertaker would be allowed to draw from numbers 20 through 30, on account of being the two most recent champions.
10. Flair won the title by winning the 30-man Royal Rumble, lasting over an hour in the match.
11. Bret Hart has Yokozuna in a sharpshooter, but Mr. Fuji interfered, costing Hart the match and the belt.
12. After the Hart/Yokozuna match, Hogan came down to the ring to protest the decision. Yokozuna challenged Hogan, and lost in 25 seconds.
13. Backlund defeated Hart in a submission match. (only way to lose is to have corner man throw in a towel)
14. Michaels defeated Hart in overtime of a 1-hour Iron Man match. After the hour, the score was tied at 0. Michaels won two minutes into OT.
15. Michaels forfeited the title on February 13, 1997 due to an injury. The title was to be placed in a "Final Four" match originally designated as a number one contender match.
16. Hart outlasted The Undertaker, Vader and Steve Austin in the Final Four match to win the vacant title
17. Upon orders from WWF head Vince McMahon, Earl Hebner declared that Bret Hart had submitted to Shawn Michaels' "sharpshooter," when, in fact, he hadn't.
18. Kane won the title in a "First Blood" match by making Austin bleed first.
19. Kane and Undertaker d. Steve Austin in a triple threat match. Both of them made the pin at the same time. WWF Owner Mr. McMahon declared the title held-up to be filled in a rematch between Kane and the Undertaker with Steve Austin as special referee. That match was inconclusive and the title continued to be held up. It was placed in a14-man tournament at the next PPV, Survior Series.
