Note: We originally had this person as Edward based upon data from a letter wrote by Thomas V. Denney of Virginia. As we go along, further evidence gathered by Carl Garver tends to indicate his name was actually Charles Edward and I am going to build the family based upon numerous census reports, obituaries and death certificates for the people concerned. One strong hint that this is the correct line is that his wife's maiden name was BEATTY and in the 1920 census, there was a niece Grace Beatty and nephew Homer Beatty living with them. Another strong hint is that Charles had a sister Mahala, in the 1900 Pike County census, there is a Mahala DOB 1869 that is married to a G. Bandy/Brady and living two houses down from Charles E. They have three stepsons living with them named Rysinger/Risinger. In 1915, one of those stepsons Dorrel appears living with Charles and Martha as a nephew.
His middle name does have conflicting information, I am going with Edward as that is what we first knew him as. However, the death certificate for his son Theodore shows his father as Charles Edmund and the death certificate for his son Dorsey shows him as Charles Edwin. Per David Edwin Denney, his middle name was Edwin, David informs me that it was family tradition for the families eldest sons to take the father's name as their middle name.
The 1900 and 1920 census reports and her death certificate differ on her DOB, the census reports have her as born Jan 1876, her death certificate has her as Apr 9 1874.
His wife Martha died of TB at her home after an illness of two years duration. She is buried at the Forest Rose Cemetery, I presume at Lancaster, Ohio.
At the time of her death, they were living at 241 W. Wheeling St, Lancaster, O.
At the time of his mothers death, Charles was still alive and living at 147 Winding Street, Lancaster, Ohio.
Per the obituary for Martha, their three daughters married Ben F. Taylor, Pontiac, MI, Fred Woll, Cincinnati, Ohio and George Bush of Lancaster. At the present time, we do not know which daughter married which man.
Martha's obituary confirms that we have all the children correct, they were all alive when she died. In addition to the children, at the time of Martha's death, she had eighteen grandchildren.
The 1900 Pike County, Beaver Township, Ohio census shows him as C. E. Denney age 24 living with his wife Martha J. age 24, son Oliver age 6, daughter Eva A. age 5, son Marion age 2 and son Teddy S. age 1. Living two houses from them is a G. Bandy and his wife Mahala (believed to be Charles' sister Mahala) with their two sons and three stepsons with the last name of Rysinger. One of these stepsons, Dorrel will later show up living with Charles and Martha.
The 1920 Lancaster County, Fairfield Township census report finds the family living in Lancaster , Ohio on Locust Street. C. E. Denney age 46 is living with his wife Martha age 45 and their children Theodore (TEDDY in 1900) age 20, twins Iva (dau) age 17 and Ivan (son) age 17, son Willard age 15 (b. Ohio), son Dorsey (b. Ohio) age 13, dau Jenevieve (b. Ohio) age 9, and son Orville (b. Ohio) age 5.
They now have a Neice Grace Beatty and nephew Homer Beatty living with them.
Living next door to them was their son Marion and his family.
His wife was shown as "MATTIE" on their marriage records per 100 Years of Pike County, Ohio Marriages.
DOB may be Oct 16, 1873

Note: Pearl was a machinists helper. He last lived on Eastern Ave, Bellefontaine, Ohio.
He died a short time after an amputation at his shoulder.
There was a Pearl Denny age 30 in the 1920 Ohio Soundex Report living at 820 Euclid, Bellefontaine, Ohio. Living with him was a wife Dora age 31 born in Ohio. If this is the same Pearl, then he may have remarried or we have the wrong name for his wife. This name of Imogene came from his death certificate so she had to have been his last wife and Dora may have been a first wife.

Note: At the time of her mother's death (1931), they were living in Columbus, Ohio. Most accounts of her name show her as NELLIE, the 1900 Pike County census appears to show it as NETTIE. I will leave as Nellie for now as that is the way she appears in obituaries etc. George McKinnis tells me it was NETTIE, short for some other name, thus I am at this time changing it. HELLO, yet another name for her, in the Pike County Ohio Marriage records, she is shown as Gertrude Voelker that married Victor Smith on Dec 16, 1919, I am changing her to Gertrude Nettie until the next change comes along. Also shown as Gertrude on her death certificate. One more update to resolve the issue, per her son Paul's death certificate, his mother's name was Gertrude Vernetta Voelker!
Her husband Victor was a farmer. Victor had diabetes and died of an coronary occlusion
Victor and Gertude were laid to rest at the Mound Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio, it may also be known as Piketon Mound
When son Paul died, his obituary stated he had a brother Carl, when Gertude died, her obituary did not mention Carl!
