Denney, John (b. 16 JAN 1852, d. 30 JUN 1922)

Note: John was apparently single, he was a farmer and lived in the St. Marys, Ohio area. His death certificate was signed by a Caleb Denney, his brother. He is buried in the Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, Ohio.

In the 1900 Auglaize County, Ohio census John is shown as age 48, he has his brother Caleb age 45 living with him and a niece Lillie age 19, b. June 1880.

Denney, Rufus E. (b. 6 JAN 1872, d. 1 MAR 1964)

Note: Rufus was a farmer, he last lived at Washington Court House, Ohio.

Rufus and his wife are buried at the Washington Court House Cemetery.

The wife of Rufus had a sister Jarusha that married Rufus' twin brother Theodore.

The 1900 Union Township, Fayette County, Ohio census finds the family as Rufus age 28 b. Ohio; wife Lizzie (Mary Elizabeth) age 24 b. Ohio; and dau Daisy age 3 months. Per this census, Lizzie was the mother of three children with only one living.

The 1910 census finds the family at Scioto Township, Pickaway County, Ohio. Rufus E age 36; wife Lizzie M age 34, dau Dassy (Daisy) age 10; son Chester age 7; dau Ivory age 5; and dau Amy age 5 months. At this point, Lizzie is the mother of 6 children with 4 living which are named here. Now, this leaves us once again with much confusion, since this shows four living children and the notes below from Rufus' obituary which show Floyd and Raymond alive, it leaves us with too many children. I think a 1920 census report on this family would clear up the problem, Floyd and Raymond were probably born after 1910 and we probably do not have the names of the dead children.

Per his wife's death certificate, her DOB was 1875, per the 1900 Fayette County, Ohio census her year of birth was 1876. Tombstone gives it as 1876.

ADDITIONAL DATA ON CHILDREN

At the time of his death, his children were located as follows: Mrs. Wilbur Gettig at Columbus, Ohio; Chester at Columbus, Ohio; Floyd at Plymouth, IN; and Raymond at Columbus, Ohio. They had one other (unnamed) daughter, Mrs. Dewey Sheidler of Washington Court House, Ohio that was alive at the time of her mother's death in 1944 but was not listed as a survivor in her fathers obit in 1964.

Per the 1900 Fayette County, Ohio census, one of their daughters was named DAISY and was born Jan 1900 in Ohio. At the present time, I have not gathered any documentation that associates this girl as one of Rufus' unnamed daughters. Per the 1910 Pickaway County, Ohio census they now had three daughters, Daisy, Amy and Ivory, two of these obviously married the individuals mentioned above.

Denney, Hulbert Ellsworth (b. 24 FEB 1877, d. 3 JAN 1958)

Note: I am looking for info on Hulbert Denney.He was born on Feb.24 1877 in Pique Ohio. He had a brother Rufus Denney of Columbus Ohio.
He died in Hartford City, Indiana on Jan.3,1958. He married Addie Jones on April 1 1911. Addie was from Vinton Co.Ohio. They are my grandparents.
Sorry this is all the info I have on them, any help with this family would be appreciated.

Denney, Alonzo "LONZO" (b. 22 MAY 1858, d. 20 FEB 1934)

Note: The Sophia that Alonzo married was the widow of William Fee, William And Sophia were the parents of Lillie Fee that married Alonzo's brother's son Bundy.

The 1920 Columbus, Ohio Soundex Report finds them at 1808 South Fifth St, Columbus, Ohio, he was age 65 and his wife was age 66.

Alonzo and Sophia are buried at the Greenlawn Cemetery (sec 89, lot 295), Columbus, Ohio.

I had a DOB of May 22, 1858 for Alonzo, this obviously has to be in error as it conflicts with the census reports and his brother Jesse's DOB, I am going to put his DOB at 1860 until definite proof comes along. UPDATE: New data now indicates that his DOB may have been about 1855 as the 1920 Columbus, Ohio Soundex Report shows him age 65 in 1920.

The Gallia County Ohio Birth Records, 1881-1895 reflect that Alonzo's wife was FRANCES SPROUSE, it shows son Charles Clay Denney born to them ! Frances Sprouse was the MOTHER of Alonzo

The book Gallia County Ohio Birth Records, 1881-1895 shows a child born to Alonzo Denny & Sophia Fee, Mariam A. Denney, DOB Jul 21 1885. I am adding her as a child to this family but with suspect as there was another daughter Alice M. born to them July 20, 1884. With the mistakes I am seeing in this book, Alice M could well be Alice Mariam and the Mariam A could be Mariam Alice and birth dates are close!

The 1880 Springfield Township, Gallia County, Ohio census finds the family as Alonzo Denney age 20, wife Sophia age 26 and Lillie D. Fee age 3, all born in Ohio. Lillie Fee would be Sophia's daughter from her first marriage

Note: Bundy age 25 was enumerated in the 1900 Tuscola, IL census with wife Lillie age 23. They were married one year & had no children

In the 1910 Mount Carmel, IL census he is living with second wife Cora. Bundy, age 35, wife Cora D. age 22, Vernon R. age 4, Lelia L. age 3 and Clarence age 4/12

This shows a new wife Cora for Bundy, unsure which wife the children were from, will put with wife Cora until resolved

At the time of the 1920 Wabash County, IL census, Bundy was living at 1316 Parish Street in the City of Mt. Carmel, ED 223, Sheet 15B, Dwelling #363, Family #372. The family was listed as Denny, Bundy J?, 45, OH OH OH, railroad car repairer; Cora D, wife, 32, IL PA PA; Lelan L, 12, IL OH IL; Clarence E, 10, IL OH IL; and Grace M, 8, IL OH IL.

There is confusion as to whether the child born about 1907 is a son or daughter, the 1910 census shows what appears to be Lelia & daughter age 3, the 1920 census shows the person as Lelan age 12 & is a son!
