Amos was a WW1 Veteran, having served June 27, 1918 through discharge on April 19, 1919. He enlisted at Point Pleasant, WV and served with the Co M Repl Regt Engrs, Co D Repl Engrs, Co A 129 Engrs

He died at the Whetstone Convalescent Center, he was laid to rest at the Sunset Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio

Amos was a member of DAV, VFW and he was retired from work as a construction supervisor

Denney, Oliver E. (b. 8 SEP 1893, d. 10 MAY 1922)

Note: Oliver was a shipping clerk with the Hocking Glass Company.

He was tragically killed when he was crushed under a truck load of glass that slipped from a truck and fell on him. His official death was listed as from a rupture of the liver in an accident. His wife signed his death certificate. He is buried at the Forest Rose Cemetery, Lancaster, Ohio.

During the 1920 census, Oliver was shown as age 26 living on 805 Washington Ave in Lancaster, Ohio with his wife Mary A. age 26 and their son Paul E. age 3 years 5 months. All were born Ohio.

The census reports and death certificate differs on the month he was born. Census reports all show October, his death certificate states September.

Per the obituary for their son Paul, his mother was still alive in 1959, apparently remarried a Franks and was living in Lancaster, Ohio.

ADDITIONAL DATA ON CHILDREN

Ethel was born with and died of an abnormality of the skull. She is buried in the Hocking Cemetery.

Note: He was living at 1462 Locust Street, Lancaster, Ohio in 1920. The census report shows him as age 22 living with his wife Sarah age 21 and son Charles E. age 2. They were living next door to Marion's father Charles E. Their son evidently named after Marion's father.

At the time of his brother Theodore's death, Marion was living in Detroit, MI. At the time of his brother Jack's death (1977), Marion was living in Alabama.

Denney, Theodore S. "TEDDY" (b. 4 JUN 1899, d. 28 JUL 1959)

Note: His month of birth in the 1900 Pike County, Ohio census report is shown as May, his death certificate shows it as June.

Theodore was a machine tender with the Loroco Paper Company. His SSN was 312-09-6216.

He died at the Lancaster-Fairfield Hospital. His wife Roxie signed his death certificate. His wife Roxie also died at the same hospital as a result of injuries from a fall at home, her brother Gerald R. Kiger signed her death certificate.

They apparently had no children as none are mentioned in his obituary.

Theodore and his wife Roxie are buried at the Amanda Township Cemetery, Fairfield County, Ohio.

Denney, Iva D. (b. 21 MAY 1902, d. 20 MAR 1975)

Note: At the time of her brother Theodore's death, Iva was married to Fred Woll and living at Erie, PA. I have a notion that she was a twin to brother Jack, I had Iva & Ivan listed with estimated birth dates and their names are similar, thus I will give her same birth date as Jack. See my notes on Jack why he is no longer called Ivan. David Edwin Denney tells me that his grandpa Jack Denney told him he was a twin so it appears logical Iva was the other half

Denney, Willard Wayne Porter (b. 8 SEP 1904, d. 5 MAR 1974)

Note: At the time of his brother Theodore's death (1959), Willard was living in Columbus, Ohio.

He worked for the Penn Central Railroad and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Workers.

Willard was married a first time and I presume all his children are from that marriage. I have no knowledge at the present time of his first wife so will just enter her as unknown until further data is available.

Willard last lived at 333 East Long Street, Columbus, Ohio.

Willard died of cardiovascular disease, he was cremated on March 8, 1974 at the Cook & Son Crematory, Columbus, Ohio.

His son John G. Denney of Dublin, Ohio signed his death certificate, they had his father incorrectly listed as Claude Denney.

His wife Lois died of bone cancer.

Denney, Dorsey Eldridge (b. 7 MAR 1907, d. 24 OCT 1986)

Note: Dorsey was a prominent AFGWU Leader. He was a 25 year retired employee of Anchor Hocking Glass, he was the past president of the American Flint Glass Workers Union Local 575 and spent 28 years as a national executive of the American Flint Glass Workers Union. He was president for 20 years of the Ohio Glass Workers Protective League and former board member of the American Cancer Society.

His SSN was 280-07-9767.

Dorsey died at his home of lung disease. He is buried at the Hamburg Cemetery, Fairfield County, Ohio. He last lived at 201 Sherman Ave, Lancaster, Ohio.

He was the last of his family, he was preceded in death by three sisters and seven brothers.

Hello:

I've been looking at your family history with some interest. I am researching my family and my mother spoke of Dorsey and his family. My grandfather and his siblings found lodging at the Home Hotel in Lancaster Ohio owned by Dorsey's family. This was during the great depression of the 30's. The hotel was on the corner of Winding and Perry Streets with the address being 147 Winding Street. I found this listing in the 1924-25 City Directory, Lancaster, Ohio.

Through my childhood, I was told my father had a half sister by the name of Alice. Through searching the Ancestry.com web site I found Olivia (Lejeune) Smith living on Sherman Avenue (Ward 4) with her parents in 1930. Mother always referred to Olivia as Olivia Denney wife of Dorsey.

My search has been for Olivia's first child, Dorsey's step-daughter Alice M. Smith. Through your family, I found an aunt I've only heard about throughout my childhood.

After doing a search of the Social Security Death Index I found Olivia was born Aug 2, 1904 and died Dec 12, 1995 in Lancaster, Ohio.

Thought you'd like to know how your family helped me with my genealogical research.

According the local newspaper (Lancaster Daily Eagle) dated Dec 20, 1926, Olivia was seriously injured in a shooting. Elton her first husband died as the result of a self inflicted gun shot. The newspaper mentioned a child of the marriage and through searching the 1930 census I found they had a daughter of that marriage by the name of Alice M. Smith.

Denney, Orville E. (b. 16 NOV 1914, d. 22 DEC 1934)

Note: Orville was employed at the Hocking Glass Co.

Orville died of a broken neck as a result of an automobile accident. He was driving when his auto left the road at Larence curve, three miles west of Basil, Ohio on the Ridge Road. The auto turned over twice and pinned him under the vehicle. His friend Lawrence Cline of Utica was not injured. He is buried at the Forest Rose Cemetery.
