August 11, 2002 I received an Internet E-Mail from William Denney, he informed me that he was the son of this Willard and that his father left his mother and children in the 1960s. He further states he had contacted his father only three times in his life and confirmed that he was indeed living in CA, near Los Angeles
William also informs me that he went by JOE and that he had two daughters in Nebraska in the early 1960s and that he had another son around 1956-1958 possibly born in Virginia

Willard Joseph Denney
Willard Joseph “Joe” Denney of Canyon Lake, Texas, was called home to join our Heavenly Father on June 25, 2006 at the age of 75. He was born in New Holland, Ohio on September 29, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents Willard W. and Lois Mumford Denney and brothers John and Frank Denney. He is survived by his devoted wife of 22 years Katherine Welch Denney, his daughters Shirley and husband Jeff Schlichting of Omaha, Nebraska, Denise and husband Jim Guehlstorff of Marshall, Texas, and stepsons Dennis Boyd of Boerne, Texas, and Jeff Boyd and wife Kymberli of Yigo, Guam, grandchildren Emily and Eric Schlichting; Rachel and Rebecca Guehlstorff and step grandchildren Trevor and Kayla Boyd, mother-in-law Agnes Welch of Canyon Lake, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. Joe served and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy and served in the Korean War.
Visitation will be at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home, Satler Texas, Wednesday June 28, 2006 from 7:00 – 9:00PM. The Funeral Services will be at Cranes Mill Baptist Church, Canyon Lake, Texas, Thursday June 29, 2006 at10:30 AM with Rev. Jerry Becknal officiating with burial following at Cranes Mill Cemetery, Canyon Lake, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Joe’s memory to the Cranes Mill Baptist Church at 10215 FM 2673, Canyon Lake, Texas 78133.

Joe joined the Navy on Oct. 9, 1947 and was discharged on Dec. 3, 1958. He served on the following ships: USS Albany (CA-123), USS Earl B. Hall (APD-107), USS Shelikof (AVP-53), USS Lloyd (APD-63), USS John S. Mc Cain (DL-3), USS William R. Rush (DDR-714). While in the Navy he received the following Medals & Awards: China Service Medal, Navy Occupation ("A" Clasp), Navy Good Conduct (2nd Award), Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense, United Nations, Korean Service Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Occupation ("E" Clasp), Bronze star (V).
Upon discharge from the Navy, Joe went to Chicago where he became Controller of the 1,000 bed Rush Teaching Hospital (formerly Presbyterian/St. Lukes Hospital). In the 1960's he worked at Continental Care Centers (a large Nursing Home chain) in Omaha Nebraska. While there he worked with Arthur Anderson & Co. helping them write the Medicare Cost Accounting System that is currently used to reimburse Nursing Homes for Patient costs, Joe was a Nursing Home Administrator with licenses in numerous states. In 1981 he came to San Antonio to work for Friendship Villas Inc. (A nursing home chain with 13 homes in 5 states. This is where he met, worked with and married his wife Kate. They moved to Southern California in 1984 where he became Regional Director for Good Shepherd Lutheran Homes for their Southwest Region which included Southern Calif, Navada, and Arizona. His first job as Regional Director was to close down their 350 bed hospital for the Developmentally Disabled in El Toro, Ca. and move the residents into 4 & 5 bedroom homes in the Orange County, Ca. area. He hired "House Parents" for each home.
In 1990 Joe suffered a stroke that resulted from a ruptured Middle Cerebyl Aneurysm. Kate, with the help of his daughters virtually raised Joe again teaching him to regain his mental abilities. After this stroke Joe retired and became the "House Husband" until Kate retired and the moved to Canyon Lake Tex in 2003.
Joe passed away peacefully at his home at Canyon Lake on June 25, 2006 at the age of 75.
