Baltimore City Nineteenth-Century Photos

Both of these photos were purchased from the same dealer. On the
left is a photo of Lizzie Herzinger from the Schutte Studio. She is
wearing a remarkable hat made of what appear to be lots of feathers.

On the right is "Grandmother Herzinger" whose photo was made at the
Henry Bohsen studio on Eastern Avenue. This photographer
was in business in the 1880s. This is one of only two examples
from this studio that I have seen.

The 1880 federal census for Maryland has only two households
named Herzinger. Jacob Herzinger born 1824 and his wife Lizzie
born in 1840 were both natives of Hessen and had the following
children: Henry, Jennie, Mary and Lizzie, 15, 13, 10 and 7 years
of age respectively.
