Baltimore City Nineteenth-Century Photos

Hazel Josselyn

Hazel Josselyn

This cabinet card, created by Benjamin W. Armiger about 1905 depicts Hazel Josselyn, daughter of Elmer H. and Sallie Armiger Josselyn. She was born in Baltimore in 1902, graduated from Goucher College and moved out west. Here, she is being stablized in an ornate wicker chair by a helpful hand on the right of the photo. Because exposure times were so long, it was often necessary to try to immobilize subjects, especially children to prevent the photo from being blurred.

Hazel Josselyn has the distinction of being (to my knowledge) the only surviving subject any of the photos on this web site. She will soon be 99 years old and is eager to see her
picture over the net on her grandson's laptop computer!

Other photos of Hazel Josselyn.

This photo is submitted by Carolyn Josselyn Fadley with permission of her great aunt Hazel.

Hazel Josselyn passed away just a few months short of her 100th birthday. During her last year, she enjoyed telling her family, friends and caretakers that her photograph was on the web!
