Baltimore City Nineteenth-Century Photos

Martin Weitzel was born in Westhofen, Hessen Darmstadt on
4 December 1824. He emigrated with his parents Jakob and Barbara Weitzel,
settling in Baltimore in 1837. On 16 September 1844, Martin
wed Catherine Elisabeth Horst in Zion Lutheran Church. He died
in Baltimore 13 days after his 70th birthday.

This photo is a digital scan of Polaroid copy made from an original in
the late 1970s when the photo was about 80 to 90 years old. The original
was a beautiful oval about one foot or more tall and was a prized
possession of Weitzel's grand daughter Marguerite Pohler.

Mrs. Pohler is now deceased. Sadly, the family does not know what became
of the original picture.
