Publishing From Front Page 2002 / XP

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first tutorial on building and publishing web pages.  Recently, I have seen quite a few requests, especially on the Freepages Mailing list, on how to use Front Page to upload your newly created web site.  In the tutorial, I will show you how.  I hope you find this tutorial helpful, and I would apriciate any suggestions on how to improve it in the future.  I have tried to make it easy to understand for newbies and pro's alike.  If you have any suggestions, questions or comments, feel free to email me.

First, of course, create your page.  When you are finished, move your cursor to file, and click on Publish Web.  This will allow you to publish or update your current web page.

In this dialoged, enter the destination of your page, For freepages, it would more than likely be ftp://users.freepages.rootsweb.com/genealogy_html If you want to use another directory, such as computers_html, just change the directory.

Enter your user name and rootsweb generated password to enter your site.

In this box, you can change some settings, and see what the differences are between the page locally on your hard drive and on the freepages server.  Most people will just need to click on Publish to upload their page.

Depending on weather you have dial-up or broadband, the first time you upload it will probably take a while.  After that, depending on you settings, you will just upload the changes to your page.  If you change a lot of pages, it will take longer, just a few pages, it shouldn't take to long.

At this point, you are finished.  If you want, you can click on the log file to see what changes you just made to your pages.  Otherwise, just click on DONE and that's it.
