I was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin on April 19,1949. Raised on my Grandfather and Uncle's Green County farm from first through the 6th grade. Then we moved to a dairy farm north af Albany, Wisconsin for 4 years. We spent one year in northern Illlinois and the last of my senior year of high school southwest of Orfordville, Wisconsin where I graduated from Parkview High School in June of 1968.
I entered the US Army on July 5, 1968 and did my basic training at Ft. Campbell, Ky. I spent the remainder of my 20.5 month military career in Ft. Rucker, Alabama at the Aviation School on the main post and Aviation Test Board on Cairns Field. I was the night crewchief on the very first OV-1D model there. Sounds impressive but mostly I swept the hangar floor, and tried to be invisible. Oh, I made coffee for the office staff once, but only once.
Following my discharge (honourable) I returned to the farm and helped Dad get the previous years corn crop in and planted the next one.
That fall I entered Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colorado where I met Beverly and we got married 6 monts later. I graduated in June of 1975.
I was assitant to the pastor in Cheyenne,
Wyoming for 6 months and since I had no interest in
playing golf, was terminated 6 monts later.
In 1991 we moved ot Danube, Minnesota and I started driving truck over the road for Schneider National Carriers where I recieved several one year safe driving awards but was terminated in 1996 because my service team leader had some unspecifiable "safety concerns". I spent the next 7 summers working for Emerald Helicopters of Olivia, Minnesota during the summers teaching people to drive truck and loading an airplane and helicopters with fuel and pesticide as well as hauling water to the helicopter trucks. I spent the winters mostly driving truck hauling sugar beets to the local sugar beet plant. I really enjoyed the Emerald job, but it was difficult to support a family on the salary and it had no benefits.
In November of 2002 I sarted driving truck over the road again, this time for J. B. Hunt, and have been doing it ever since. I have recieved a one year and two year safety awards, and in September of 2006 received the driver of the month award for our 60 driver board.
Also, in 2007, I was chosen as Time Magazines "Man of the Year". Ya, really!! There is a story behind that one.
We are presently building a cabin (retrement) retreat just west of Readstown, Wisconsin.
I like listening to talk radio, am politically fervently conservative and like to tell people I am Rush Limbaugh's right hand man. "Political Correctness" dosen't intimidate me at all. I take their barbs, embrace them, and make them my own. I almost got slugged in Louisiana for my views.
I have 4 kids, 2 son in laws, 1 daughter in law, 7 grandkids, and a wife with a dog.
A year and a half ago we purchased 6.51 acres near Readstown, Wisconsin and started building our very own dream/retirement house with Bev as the general contractor. This has had it's ups and downs as would be expected. Latest photos will be posted at this link and will be updated as things change.
We will have get togethers for our workers, family and church so it you are in one of these groups please keep in touch for the appropriate dates.
Also I will be getting a new email address and that willl be posted at the above link when I get it.
