Cyndi's List

Cyndi's List

I used to have a link here to my ancestor site on the Parsons Technology server. While I am are still using Family Origins and are very happy with it (no, I have not made the switch to Roots Magic), I asked Parsons to delete that site while I clean up my database and work on filtering out living relatives. Too many corrupted notes had crept into the mix over the years and I've read too many articles about privacy and the Web. So, look for a new and improved "Ancestors of Tim" site one of these days (soon I hope!). In the meantime, I'll be posting things here on freepages, with links to the new pages as I get them ready. Check back when you can for that info.

IF you see any sites that claim Freeman Gatewood's father was named Harve, they are based on misinformation and NOT true. If you see any sites that appear to be based on info I may have posted to the Parsons Tech site, please let me know so I can take steps to have them removed. Thanks!

Out of respect for the privacy of living relatives (and concern for the corrupted notes and other problems with my working draft data base), I have moved my FREEMAN GATEWOOD and HARRIET NOBLIN GATEWOOD book data over to a secure website that requires an invitation to get in. If you are related to the Gatewoods of the Midsouth (West Tenn., North Mississippi, and Eastern Arkansas), drop me an email (at ) and I will see about letting you in. I would rather just post the info for all to see -- but I do want to look out for my family, too.

Here is a list of bookmarks that I have used (please let me know if there are any dead or broken links here):

The single best site for finding others who may be seeking the same ancestors has to be ROOTSWEB. They have so many ways to help the on-line genealogist and they are all FREE !! (Even those Ancestry.com took them over several years ago, the rootsweb side is still free.) Go there now -- do not delay !! Here's a site on the Rootsweb server that focuses on Georgia military history (a particular interest of mine since several of my ancestors were Georgians in the military):Georgia military

Here are some Genealogy and history groups I have been involved with:

Here are some links to other groups and places of interest:

Here are some links to genealogy-related sites. This  bunch come from an article that appeared years ago in Smart Computing magazine, which is no longer being published: (The link to Cyndi's List has been updated since that list appeared.)

Here are some sites for Genealogy Software that were mentioned in that same article:

Here are some other links that I ran across on a list awhile back:

See also Tim's Search Engine Page for links to search engines that you can use to find even more genealogy and history sites on the Web and see Tim's Civil War Page for links to some Civil War (U.S. history, 1861-1865) sites.  Also a couple of new pages here: an ebook about a  famous NEELEY descendant (John Neely Bryan), who was apparently my 1st cousin 5 times (generations) removed; and this on the Jacob Houber (Harber) and Catherine Powmin records in South Carolina (Jacob and Catherine are apparently ancestors of George A. Harber, my g-g-grandfather).

This page is part of the Tim Gatewood (TIM's LINK SITE) series.
Please let me know if any of the links on here do not seem to be working.
