Denis Parkinson (1915-2004), was a local legend.
During the second World War he was a dispatch rider with the Royal Corps of Signals who, along with many others, handled messages to and from Bletchley Park, the top secret code and cipher operation in Buckinghamshire.
He was a 5 times winner of the Manx Grand Prix (1936, 1937, 1938, 1948 and 1953).
He was also a former President of the Wakefield and District Motor Sports Club.
Denis was also a well known commentator for motor sport on radio and TV for over 30 years.
Locally, he was known as the owner of Parkinson's Motor cycle shop on Ings Road, which closed in 1977 after many years of trading.
Denis died on 16th March 2004, aged 89, following a lengthy illness.
