FARMING IN STANLEY IN MEDIEVAL TIMES

The following is taken from a survey of Wakefield made on Christmas Day 1300 A.D.

STANLEY- Robert Pettye - I tenement 16½ acres for 4/3d. He shall plough one day in the spring and if he does not plough he shall pay 3d, and he shall reap one day and take 3/4d, otherwise pay 2d. He shall dam, hunt, carry as far as Sourbydshire and pay l/2d and 20d for tak and grind for 17 loads.

WALLONS- Sons of Adde - 1 tenement 18 acres for 7/0d. He shall plough with two beasts, reap with three persons one day or pay 6d. Shall dam, grind, hunt carry which is valued at 1/4d and the third of a farthing and pay tax 3/Od.
