ARNOLD, REVEREND LEONARD RAY - age 72, entered his Eternal Home completing the walk he began in 1973 when he devoted his life to service and discipleship of the Master, Jesus Christ. A native of Kingsport, TN he graduated from Lynn View High School, attended Tennessee Wesleyan College and completed his B.S. degree at East Tennessee State University. A U.S. Army veteran he prepared for the ministry at Emory University in Atlanta, GA where he received a Masters in Divinity. He served as a minister in the United Methodist Churches in the Holston Conference from 1974 until 2001. He pastored churches in Virginia in Sugar Grove- Teas, Elk Creek and Floyd, in Tennessee at Big Springs UMC in Cleveland, Harrison-Washington Hills in Harrison and Holly Avenue UMC in South Pittsburg and at McFarland Avenue UMC in Rossville, GA. He also served the Holston Conference as secretary and journal editor for eight years. Since his retirement he has been an active member of the Norris, TN Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Ferne (Gott) Arnold on Kingsport, TN. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of forty-nine years, Mary Longmire Arnold of Clinton, TN; two daughters and their husbands, Dr. Linda Anne Lewis and Sam of Andersonville, TN and Dr. Kimberly Boyter and Richard of Bossier City, LA. Grandchildren include Mary Beth Dewberry of Naperville, IL, Samuel Lewis Jr. stationed in the United Arab Emirates with the U.S. Army, Katherine Anne Lewis of Knoxville, Melinda Burns, Eric Burns and Ricky Boyter all of Bossier City, LA and one great grandson, River Dewberry of Naperville, IL. Also surviving are brothers, Paul W. (Bob) and wife Mary Arnold and Ronald E. (Ron) and Alice Arnold all of Kingsport, TN and several nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by a throng of friends and parishioners who celebrate his Heavenly Homecoming. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 4, from 1:00-3:00 at Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the funeral to follow at 3:00 with Rev. Mike Travis, Rev. Ralph Kidd and Rev. Ralph Horak officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Andersonville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Andersonville United Methodist Church, St. Mary's Hospice in Halls or Holston Home for Children in Greenville. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of the arrangements.
