Jim Davis

KINGSPORT — James Walker ‘‘Speedy’’ Davis, 60, 221 Mullins Street, died Saturday afternoon (Feb. 5, 2000) at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center after a period of declining health.

He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and a son of the late C.H. and Rosa Mitchem Davis. He was a U.S. Army veteran and employed by AFG Industries.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Davis.

Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years, Martha Compton Davis; two sons, Brad Davis and Chad Davis, both of Kingsport; three sisters, Mrs. A.M. (Pearl) Sherfey, Fall Branch, Mrs. Clyde (Mary) Munsey, Ohio, Mrs. Jackie (Arlena) Free, Kingsport; four grandchildren, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Hayleigh, Allaina Davis; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Edgar Pierce officiating.

Graveside services and interment will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Herschell Vance Davidson, Jr., 71 of Kingsport passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born October 3, 1940 in Elizabethton and was raised traveling with his parents, as his dad was a minister with the Holston Methodist Conference. He resided his adult life in Kingsport. He retired after 30 years service with Kingsport Fire Department and retired after 20 years service with Southwest Security. He was past trustee of Aerie 3141 and President of Aerie 3274, Fraternal Order of the Eagles.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Herschell and Eula Davidson; son-in-law, Michael L. Hatton; grandparents; several aunts, uncles and in laws.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ann Davidson of the home; daughters, Karen Davidson Fandl, of the home, Cindy Davidson Hatton of Kingsport, Donna Davidson of Kingsport; one very special granddaughter, Kasi Ann Hatton, who was the light of his life; brother and best friend, Dean Davidson; uncles, Bob Davidson of New York, Sid Davidson (Linda) of Elizabethton; along with several in laws, nieces and nephews and a special friend, Norris Morris.

He was loved by everyone who knew him. He will be missed each and every day. He was the best husband, daddy, “gramps”, brother and friend to all. He was a UT Vols enthusiast and NASCAR devotee. He loved time spent with family and friends and was a loyal friend and would always reach out to anyone. He had all his “girls” wrapped around his little finger. He adored his beloved pets, Meyer and Oliver “Ollie”.

The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, 520 Watauga Street.

A service will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jack Edwards officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, March 30, 2012 at Walnut Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of Kingsport Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews.

Martha Colleen Dean Shriver, 68, of Kingsport, passed away on Tuesday December 29, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.

Colleen was a resident of Sullivan County, TN and lived in California for 25 years. She previously taught school at Madison Elementary School. Colleen was a charter member of Gravelly Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady Denver and Ermal Beuris Dean; one sister; two brothers, Paul Dean and Frankie Dean.

Survivors include her husband of over 39 years, Jerry Roy Shriver, of the home; daughter, Cheryl McLaughlin of Blountville, TN; son, Stephen Shriver of Sacramento, CA; two grandchildren, Brittany McLaughlin and Michael McLaughlin; three sisters, Patsy Riner and husband, Claude of Kingsport, Nelda Carol Jessee and Leroy Jessee of Kingsport, Beotta Cudebec and husband, Kim of Orlando, FL; brother, Harold Glenn Dean and wife, Joan of Damascus, VA; sister in law, Earldean Dean of Kingsport; along with several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 6 pm on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Gravelly Baptist Church, 500 Gravely Road, Kingsport, TN 37660 with Pastor David Salley, officiating. Music will be provided by Terry Bennett. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.

Wayne Dean

KINGSPORT -- Wayne Dean, 69, of Mount Carmel, passed away on Sunday (Jan. 31, 2010).

Mr. Dean served in the United States Army.  He worked Eastman Chemical Company for 32 years until his retirement in 1993.  His joy in life was his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Salina Hughes Dean and Isaac Penley Dean; brothers, Gale, Jackie and Jimmy Dean; sister-in-law, Frances Dean.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Patsy Dean; daughter, Kelly and husband, Jerry Robinson of Kingsport, Tom Dean of Omaha, Nerb./ granddaughters, Marjorie, Stephanie and Kimberly Dean of Omaha, Nebr. and Renee Robinson of Kingsport; sister, Jo Jennings and husband, Bob and Wilma Bartley and husband Everett; brothers, Richard Dean and wife Judy, Ray Dean and wife, Eula and Lawrence Dean; sisters-in-law, Ella Dean, Joyce Dean and Ramona Dean, all of Kingsport.  Wayne is further survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel in the Oak Hill Funeral Home.

A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to a charity of one's choice.
