KINGSPORT - Stephen C. "Hoover" Guy, 55, of 295 Bell St., Blountville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday (Oct. 26, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital after a brief battle with brain cancer.

He was born in Kingsport, and was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He graduated from Lynn View High School in 1969, and was employed at Weyerhaeuser. He also was a Vietnam veteran. Steve loved to hunt, fish, and play golf. He was the former owner of Hoover's Bait and Tackle Shop.

He was a member and deacon of Blessed Hope Baptist Church. Steve loved his church and his church family. His greatest joy was doing Sunday night prayer room and being a witness door-to-door.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Lee and Edyth Elizabeth Meade Guy; and a brother, David Lynn Guy.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Janet Hope Guy of the home; a daughter, Kristie Guy Bushong and husband John of Raleigh, N.C.; a son, Brian Guy and wife Karen of Jonesborough; two loving grandchildren, Noah and Abbigail; two loving caregivers, mother and father-in-law, Carl and Jewel Gragg; a sister, Regina Drennen; a brother, Mitchell Guy and wife Jewel of Kingsport; two nieces, Crystal and Laura Guy; one nephew, Spike Guy of Kingsport; special friends, Al Thoda, Clayton Vaughn, Don Canter and Wayne Bowman; and lots of uncles, aunts, cousins.

The family will receive friends at Oak Hill Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday or at the home anytime Thursday.

Services will be conducted at Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Midway on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Stanley Sims officiating.

Military graveside services will immediately follow at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens in Blountville with military rites being performed by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Routh, Mack Begley, Steve Donihue, Don Jones, Jerry Gibbons and Earl Hulse.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ananthula and colleagues for their love and compassionate care for Steve. His last days were made peaceful and comfortable. The family would also like to thank Eastman employees who made it possible for Hope and Brian to spend time with Steve during his last days. God Bless You.
