Reda Vern Hann (Skelton)

Oct. 25, 1995

Kingsport -- Reda Vern Skelton, 60, of 1098 Old Union Road died Wednesday (Oct. 25, 2995) at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mrs. Skelton was born in Hancock County, but spent most of her life in Hawkins County.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. A. J. Skelton; her parents, David and Bessie Mabe Hann; one sister, Ina Mable Helton; and one brother, Emory Hann.

Surviving are her three daughters, Mrs. Debbie Castel, Church Hill, Mrs. Susie Blankenbeckler, Kingsport, and Mrs. Becky Surtherland, Gray, Tenn.; two sons, Mr. Jeff Skelton, Kingsport, Mr. Greg Skelton, Church Hill; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Thompson, Virginia, Mrs. Birdie Gent, Mrs. Neil Lawson, both of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at he residence of Mrs. Debbie Castle, 1098 Old Union 
Road, Church Hill, Tenn.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Larry Morelock officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Elm Spring Cemetery.

Helen Harkleroad (Pearson)

Sept. 15, 1985

Kingsport -- Helen Harkleroad Pearson, 48, 1623 Woodside Drive, died Sunday evening of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

A lifelong resident of Kingsport, Mrs. Pearson was employed by Hoover and Harrison Associates for many years and was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Burleigh Pearson, Kingsport; two daughters, Kelly Sue Powers, Greenville, N.C., and Mary Beth Pearson, Kingsport; a son, Sam Burleigh Pearson II, Knoxville; mother, Jane H. Harkleroad, Kingsport; three sisters, Mrs. David (Sue) Abee, Mrs. Charles (Fay) Weaver and Paulette Morrison, all of Kingsport; a brother Wayne Harkleroad, Kingsport.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Luke United Methodist Church with The Rev. Homer Roller and The Rev. Robert T. Edmonds officating.

The body will be taken to the church one hou prior to services.

Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Betty Head (Carpenter)

October 31, 2005

KINGSPORT - Betty Ruth Carpenter, 70, went to be with the Lord on Monday (Oct. 31, 2005) at Wellmont Hospice House of Bristol after a brief illness.

Mrs. Carpenter was born in Kingsport and had resided here all her life. She worked for 15 years at Roberts and Johnson, then retired from Holston Builders in 1997 after 27 years of service.

Betty attended Midfield Freewill Baptist Church. She was a loving wife and compassionate person who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She loved camping, walking, yard sales, and going to the beach.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Sallie Davis Head.

Carpenter

Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Robert L. Carpenter of the home; one sister, Lucille Dingus of Kingsport; one brother, Franklin Head of Kingsport; one niece, Linda Dingus of Kingsport; and one nephew, Ronald Dingus and wife Rhonda of Kingsport.

The family will receive friends at Oak Hill Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Billy Gragg officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted in Oak Hill Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Thursday. Friends and family wishing to attend graveside services are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Guy Johnson, Ralph Carter, John Carpenter, James Carpenter, Tom Kerns, Carl Riley, Harley Ball and Frank Carr.

Betty Helton (Taylor)

December 12, 2007

KINGSPORT — Betty Helton Taylor, 72, of Kingsport, passed away at her residence Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2007).

She was born in Morristown, Tenn. and moved to Kingsport in 1943. She was a graduate of Lynn View High School. She was a charter member of Ft. Robinson Baptist Church. C.B. handle Avon Lady in 70 and 80’s of Ridgeway Drive in Kingsport. Betty worked at Publix Food Market and Minute Markets and was a member of Kingsport React. Betty and Ray owned and operated Taylor’s Air Conditioners.

She was preceded in death by her twin son, Tony Dale Taylor; parents, Haskell “H.R.” and Cidna Helton; brother, George Dana Helton; great-granddaughter, Gracie Jane Armstrong.

She is survived by her husband, Noah Ray Taylor, of the home; twin-daughter, Teri Armstrong and husband Daniel, Hayden, Ala.; son, Billy Taylor and wife Jennifer, Kingsport; grandson, John Taylor, Kingsport; grandchildren, Derrick, Desiree, Joshua, and Roger Armstrong all of Hayden, Ala., Toni and John Marshall, Knoxville, Dawn and Robert Queener, Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Andrew Queener, and Austin Marshall, all of Knoxville; sisters, Ruth Howerton, Church Hill, Mary Wade and husband Jim, Kingsport; brother, William “Bill” Helton and wife Janice, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Chaplin, Bob Gibson officiating.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Cemetery. Family and friends who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:55 p.m.

Eunice Hood (Holland)

July 3, 1995

Laurel, Md. -- Eunice Hood Holland, 58, died Monday (July 3, 1995) in Laurel, Md., after a brief illness.

Born in Kingsport, she had lived in Laurel, Md., for the past 26 years.  She graduated from Lynn View High School in 1955.  She worked for the federal government foe most of her career.  She had been a former leader with the Girl Scouts and during her time with Laurel Assembly, the Missionettes.

She attended the First Assembly of God Church, Laurel, Md.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Holland; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry T. Hood; and several sisters and brothers.

Surviving are a son, Steven M. Kahn, Rock Springs, Wyo.; two daughters, Pamela A. Rozanski, Bowie Md., and Sherri L Eader, Laurel, Md.; five grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Jesse Castle, and Mrs. Evelyn Adkins, both of Kingsport, Mrs. Georgia Case and Mrs. Ruhbye Martin, Both of San Antonio, Texas, and Mrs. Kathleen Pitts, Dayton, Ohio; three brothers, Hobart Hood, Church Hill, Henderson Hood, Kingsport and Howard Hood, Laurel, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Lonnie Wooten, Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in the Oak Hill Mausoleum.
