ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Brenda King Barnes went to be with the Lord on Friday (Oct. 2, 2009).

Brenda was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother and friend.  She graduated from Lynn View High School in Kingsport in 1960.  After graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C., while here she worked for Goddard Space Center and the Department of Interior.  Brenda moved to Annapolis, Md. after marrying to work with her husband at their business.  Brenda was gregarious, loved to travel, and had a desire to be of service to others which resulted in her becoming an integral part of MADD.

Her love for the Chesapeake Bay area led to many hours spent sailing and exploring monuments and museums of D.C.  Traveling extensively in the states, as well as, internationally, she continued to explore, enjoy, and learn about the people and wonders of our world.  One of her favorite trips was to Alaska where she was privileged to see the Northern Lights.

Brenda was a sophisticated, well-spoken lady.  She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bessie King; a sister, Edith King McGuire; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Jean King; and a special friend, Juanita Tate.

She is survived by her husband, Harry Barnes; and a son, Chris Barnes, both of Annapolis, Md.  Other survivors are Christa Barnes of Baltimore, Md.; a brother Paul King of Greeneville; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Opal King of Kingsport; two sisters and their spouses, Oscar and Geraldine Franklin and Roy and Wilma Pritchett, all of Cleveland, Tenn.; many nieces and nephews and their spouses; special friends, Linda Cimino, Brenda Parker, Lois Pearcy and June Wagner, all of Kingsport and her cancer support group.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at New Life Church of God in Kingsport with the Rev. G. Dennis McGuire, a beloved nephew officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
