O. C. Maness

January 5, 1994

Omar Conley Maness Jr., 61, 721 Canonero Ct., Kingsport, died Wednesday (Jan. 5, 1994) at Holston Valley Hospitan and Medical Center after an extended illness.

Mr. Maness was born in Kingsport and was a former resident of Flint, Mich.  He had resided in Kingsport for the last five years.  He was retired from General Motors and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Flint, Mich.

Surviving are his wife, Glenda Maxie Maness; one daughter, Lisa Marie Maness, Smyrna, Tenn.; three sons, Omar Conley Maness III, San Diego, Calif., Anthony Gray Maness; Johnson City, and Danny Lee Maness, Kingsport; seven grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Omar Conley Maness Sr., Kingsport; four sisters; Rowena Daugherty, Margaret Cleek, Christine Stapleton and Delores Roark, all of Kingsport; one brother, Michael W. Maness, Kingsport.

Calling hours are from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown.

Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. F. M. Brown officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.

Phil McGlothlin

Dec. 30, 1994

Kingsport -- Phillip E. (Phil) McGlothlin, 60, Route 6, East Carter's Valley Road, died Friday (Dec. 30, 1994)  at 4:00 p.m. at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center after a heart attack.

He was a life long resident at the Sullivan county and Kingsport area.  He attended Lynn View High School and graduated from Shoemaker High School in 1953.  He had retired from Holston Defense Corp. with over 30 years service in 1991.  He was employed by Carter-Trent Funeral Home.

He sang tenor with the McGlothlin Family Quartet for over 32 years.  The group sang all over the Eastern United States, performing for religious organizations, churches, civic groups, family gatherings and benefit singings for charitable causes and those in need.

He was a charter member of the Higher Ground Baptist Church where he was an active choir member .

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Salley McGlothlin; his maternal grand parents, Jim and Clara Bowman Salley; and his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Virgie Jackson McGlothlin.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Gayle Couch McGlothlin, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. joe (Gena) Martin, Limestone, Tenn.; one son, Greg McGlothlin, Kingsport; his father, Gaines G. McGlothlin, Kingsport; one brother, Kit McGlothlin, Kingsport; one foster brother, Garland Burton, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Higher Ground Baptist Church, 1625 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, with Pastor Phil Hoskins and Dr. Tony Gonzales officiating.

Calling hours are imediately after the funeral services at Higher Ground Baptist Church.

Shirley Mellons (Frazier)

September 9, 2006

KINGSPORT --- Shirley Mellons Frazier, 71, Kingsport, passed away on Saturday (Sept. 9, 2006) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
     She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and a graduate of Lynn View High School.  Shirley was previously employed with the Kingsport Press and Tennessee Eastman.  She was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Nora (Carroll) Mellons; sister, Faye M. Light; two brothers, Gene Mellons and Jack Mellons.
     She is survived by her husband of 49 years, James M. Frazier, of the home; daughter, Jamie Richardson and husband Anthony, Kingsport; grandchildren, Lauren and Tyler Richardson; sisters, Dana Pratt, Kingsport, Joanne Gray and husband Norman, Mt. Carmel; two brothers, Arthur Mellons and wife Betty, Louisville, Ky., Glenn Mellons and wife Jane, Kingsport; sister-in-law, Janice Mellons, Blountville, Francis Mellons Kingsport, Elsie Daugherty, Nicklesville, Va., Evelyn Frazier, Knoxville; brother-in-law, Wallace Light, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
     Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.  Friends may also call anytime at the residence, at Glencliff Drive in Colonial Heights.
     Funeral services will be conducted on Monday 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Victor Wallace and Rev. Jim Gray officiating.
     Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Oak Hill Cemetery.  Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m.
     Pallbearers will be Greg Light, Jon Light, Jeff Mellons, Mike Mellons, Ben Mellons, Nathan Gray, Stanley Frazier and Danny Ray Meade.

Bob Morelock

May 21, 2004

KINGSPORT - Robert H. Morelock, 70, passed away Friday (May 21, 2004) at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn.

Born in Sullivan County, he was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. Mr. Morelock graduated from Lynn View High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He was a veteran paratrooper of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. He retired from AFG Industries after 38 years of service.

Mr. Morelock had been active in local civic organizations and served several years as scout master of Troop 59 Boy Scouts of America-Sequoyah Council.

He was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church.

His father, Ralph Morelock, also of Kingsport, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda Dykes Morelock, of the home; his mother, Grace Morelock, Kingsport; two sons, Trevor Morelock and wife, Donna, Brent Morelock and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Hannah and Gavin Morelock; and sisters-in-law, Audrey Speer, Tustin, Calif., Cuma Collins and Clanthe Dykes, both of Kingsport.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Homer Roller officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
