Robert "Bob" Mays

December 8, 2005

KINGSPORT - Robert "Bob" Mays, Sr., 67, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday (Dec. 8, 2005).

He was born in Kingsport and had resided here for the past 25 years. Bob was a graduate of Lynn View High School and East Tennessee State University. He retired from the Department of Defense following 30 years of service.

Mr. Mays was a member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church.

His parents, Paris and Josephine Mays preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Pierson Mays of Kingsport; three daughters, Robin Maxwell and husband Doug of Blountville, Renee Minton and husband Tim of Bluff City and Regina Mays of Kingsport; one son, Robert Mays, Jr. of Johnson City; and four grandchildren, Alexi Maxwell, Kelli Maxwell, Nick Minton and Cody Minton.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Services will follow at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Kelly Pierson and Rev. W. Scott Layer officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Lee McConnell, Jim Berry, Eric Odiorne, Kevin Odiorne, Rob Carney, Larry Shively, Jr., Otis Pierson, Tim Minton, and Doug Maxwell.

 

Joan Meece (Pittman)

August 3, 2003

BAKERSVILLE, NC – Joan Meece Pittman, 65, of Guy Snyder Road, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003 at her home. A native of Easley, SC, she was the daughter of the late Mack and Lillian Buchanan Meece. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Larry Wade Pittman, and Tim Mack Pittman; and one sister, Emily Blazer.
Survivors include her husband, Wade Pittman of the home; one son, Carl Eric Pittman of Hickory; two brothers, Jim Meece of Bluntville, TN, and Harold Meece of Johnson City, TN; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cane Creek Baptist Church. Revs. Jessie Smith and John Stafford officiated. Burial followed in Cane Creek Cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville

Bill Montgomery

August 30, 1999

KINGSPORT — William (Bill) Montgomery, 61, died at 12:40 a.m. Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

A lifelong resident of Kingsport, he was a graduate of Lynn View High School and served with the U.S. Army during 1961 and 1962.

He also served in the 639th Transportation Company of the U.S. Army Reserves for seven years.

Mr. Montgomery was employed with Eastman Chemical Company for 33 years retiring as a control operator in the A.Y. Division in 1998.

He was preceded in death by his father, W.E. Montgomery Sr.

Surviving are his wife, Pauline Blevins Montgomery, Kingsport; two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Michele Montgomery, Canton, Ga., Chad and Rebecca Montgomery, Church Hill; two grandchildren, Ryan and Megan Montgomery; mother, Mildred Montgomery, Kingsport; one sister, Wanda Montgomery, Kingsport; one brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Jeanette Montgomery, Taylor, S.C.; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Mr. George Trent officiating.

Burial will follow at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with military graveside rites by American Legion Hammond Post No. 3.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Patricia Morgan (Phillips)

CHURCH HILL - Patricia "Pat" Morgan Phillips, 68, of 208 River Road in Church Hill, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday (July 26, 2006) at her residence.

She was born in Hancock County and had lived the majority of her life in the Lynn Garden community before moving to Church Hill in 1993. Pat was a graduate of Lynn View High School in 1956. She retired from Holston Valley Hospital with 30 years of service. Following retirement, she worked at Church Hill Health Care & Rehab Center. Patricia Phillips was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Carmel.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edgar Douglas Phillips in August 1994; her parents, G.A. and Morene Trent Morgan; her brother, William C. (Buddy) Morgan in February 1999.

Surviving are two daughters, Denise Lane and her husband, Kelly and Jennifer Light and her husband, Gene (both of Kingsport); a son and special daughter-in-law, Jeff Phillips and his wife, Lisa (Mount Carmel); her sweet and loving grandchildren, LeAnn Lane, Wesley Lane, Leslie Phillips, Kaylie Phillips, Matthew Phillips and Roseanna Light; a step-granddaughter, Sherri Roberts; her great-great-grandchildren, Logan Roberts, Ryan Roberts and Emily Roberts along with her wonderful and special friends of Oak Grove Baptist Church and Jim Moore's and Evie Vaughn's Sunday School Class. A special thank-you goes out to Wellmont Hospice and especially Renee Skelton for their compassion shown these past two weeks.

Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Baptist Church or friends may also call anytime at the son's residence, 304 Cloverleaf Court in Mount Carmel.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at the church with Dr. Walter Crouch officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery with family and friends meeting at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m.

Honorary pallbearers will be Evie Vaughn's Sunday School Class along with Pat's special family and special friends.

Charlie Morrison

May 29, 2000

KINGSPORT — Charles L. Morrison, 63, died Monday (May 29, 2000) at his home after an extended illness.

He was born in Morristown, Tenn. and had lived most of his life in Kingsport. He was retired from American Electric Power after 35 years of service.

Mr. Morrison was a graduate of Lynn View High School, where he was a member of the baseball team. He enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves Baseball, Tennessee Vols Football and racing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Morrison; and a sister, Louise Morrison.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Morrison, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Allen Pryor, Knoxville; sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Rita Morrison, Morristown, Matthew Morrison and his fiancée, Andrea Cochran, Maryville, Tenn.; a stepson, Darek Powell, Kingsport; granddaughter, Gabriella Marie Morrison; his mother, Viola Morrison, Kingsport; and two very special pets, Punkin and Daisy Mae.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Oak Hill Funeral Home.
