ROCKFORD, Ill. - Anna Christine Ryan, 73, of Rockford, passed away Thursday (Aug. 17, 2006) at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center.

She was born July 3, 1933 in Benedict, Va., to the late Willard and Mary Mae (Seale) Roach. She married Robert Lewis Ryan on Jan. 10, 1953 and was a graduate of Lynn View High School, Kingsport (TN) Class of 1953. She was formerly employed with Camcar Textron, Swedish American Hospital Emergency Room, and Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Rockford where she served in the Mariner's Group, Sewing Club, and helped organize the prayer chain. She was also a member of the Rockford Christian Women's Club.

Anna loved sewing, cooking, canning, traveling, and reading, particularly her Bible everyday.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gene, Tom, and Bill Roach; sisters, Emma Richmond and Georgia Roach.

Survived by her husband; five children, Deborah Castronovo of Loves Park, Peggy (Bill) Freeman of Decatur, Ala., Timothy Ryan of Washington, D.C., James (Sarah) Ryan of Marissa, Benjamin (Lorrie) Ryan of Bloomington; nine grandchildren; brother, Bob (Janet) Roach of Kingsport; two sisters, Virginia Nutter of Kingsport and Shirley (Ray) Picchietti of Rockford; several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Rockford, Ill.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, First Presbyterian Church in Rockford or Northern Illinois Hospice.
